BINGHAMTON — The Southern Tier Hawks haven’t been able to play any games, or in any tournaments due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but they’ve been able to practice regularly here at the St. Mary’s Rec. Center.
Many members of the program, as well as its coaches, have been “giving back” to the community each Saturday by volunteering at the weekly St. Mary of the Assumption-Church of St. Paul community meals at the recreation center.
“If it weren’t for St. Mary’s making the Rec. Center available to us, our kids wouldn’t have any place to play,” said a Hawks spokesperson. “And, our kids — all kids for that matter, need things to do, and places to do them right now.
“Our program giving back our time to these community meals, helping St. Mary’s-St. Paul’s provide food to people who need it, people who might go hungry without it, is just the right thing to do,” added the Hawks spokesperson.
The program provides approximately 200 meals each Saturday, with the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners accounting for even more.
